Poetry

I like to write random words in my notebook to use in songs. This was the product of a whole page of them that came together when I was feeling particularly in love.

Every brick in my wall keeps my wall together
Every time our eyes meet its tequila, salt and lemon
The taste of tangerine and yellow yield signs
Lingering ideas of you in past lives

But it’s a bitter-sweet taste, this blackened heart’s desire
On this unvoiced dream, babe we could build an empire
And all the traffic lights, they’re turning red to green
So let’s ignore the warnings, we could be poetry

Oh the seasons, oh they change
When you look, you look my way
It’s a risk I have to take
Your wanderlust has got me, babe

Now you got me breathing fast, you got me hooked on that something
I probably should take a breath, take a hint and chalk it up to nothing
But you got me thinking I could be a superstar
This oxytocin’s got me higher than anyone

Boy you break my bad habits, I used to relish rain
Dance my best dress ‘til it’s damaged, your sunshine changed my ways
And now I know all of your loopholes, buttons and cheats
So let’s exchange all of your secrets for melodies

Cause oh the seasons, oh they change
When you look, you look my way
And it’s a risk I have to take
Your wanderlust has got me, babe (Don’t get away)

Don’t get away
Dah, dah, dah
Get away
No, no, no

He’s liquorice right on my tongues
He’s my fire, I’m his sun
Oh the seasons mean nothing
Cause boy you turn them all to spring
You turn them all to spring
